After reformating my hardrive i tried to play a dvd on my lite-on dvd-rom and new 106 writer whitch i've fitted,playback was quite poor quality till i uninstalled then reinstalled my graphics card drivers now dvds play fine on the dvd-rom but still poor on the writer why is this? i have checked all the settings i can think of DMA ect and it's still the same, i run 98se and have tried various players any ideas???

Have you installed the latest drivers for your motherboard chipset?
If the drive is the slave on the same IDE channel as the Lite-On (being master), that could account for the problem. Chipset drivers might improve this. -
I have tried new motherboard chipset drivers and made the writer master but this has made no difference
i may just leave it as it seams to write ok and i can still play dvds on the lite-on unless u can think of anything else

Well, unless you can think of anything else that changed when you reloaded the OS, I don't know what's going on.
Something had to have changed, it's just a matter of figuring out what.
Service Pack 1? Did you have an ASPI layer installed? -
Up date on dvd play back.
I have just installed Nero 6 and for some reason it has fixed my problem -
Good to hear, Nero comes with it's own ASPI layer, so that's most likely what solved your problem.
