  1. Hi all,
I've heard DVD Shrink is the best programme to back-up original DVDs to DVD+Rs as the re-encoding is the best quality. Is this true? I was thinking of getting DVD X Copy. Is the re-encoding of the same quality? DVD X Copy also has some protection to prevent sebsequent copying of copies. Is there anyway to do this with other programmes?

Since DVD Shrink is free, I opted to use it rather that pay for DVD X Copy. It works fine for copying all DVD movies and shrinking them to 4.7GB. I used it to make DVD backups of all my DVDs (about 100). Some say that it is more difficult to use, but I have had no problems, and the home site has a good forum to provide help.

It can be used to make the movie "region free" and as far as I know there are no limitations on creating backups of backups (Although I have never wanted to do this, I have used DVD Shrink to analyze, i.e. test, the computer copy produced by DVD Shrink)

I have also used DVD Shrink both to separate a movie into 2 disks (to avoid too much compression) and to combine 2 DVD disks for burning on a single disk.

  4. Download DVD shrink. It's free, the quality of the video is great, and it does this fast and easy. DVD X copy...don't make me laugh. It's a rip off and the quality of the program is garbage compared to DVD shrink. Amazingly enough, for a free proggie, DVD shrink is always updating with better a new features all the time.

  5. I actually returned DVD X Copy after discovering DVD Shrink. DVD Shrink has lots of options, quality compared to DVD X Copy. I did not like returning it since 321 Studios is battling the movie insustry for the right to make back-up copies. The author of DVD Shrink did an incredible job on the program...Hats off to them.

I use them both, the quality of both progs is very good, DVD X copy is
a very easy way of backing up your DVD's. but it costs, DVD shrink is free and easy to use but its not as easy as DVD X copy.
i think if we had a vote on the best prog, DVD SHRINK would win just because its free.

  7. even if they both were free or they both cost the same. dvd shrink would still win just because its a better program. that old saying best things in life are free. dvd shrink and dvd decrypter are good examples...

Why would anybody care if somebody made copies of their copies?

Well, it makes sure you can't copy a DVDXCopy with DVDXCopy - any other DVD backup tool will work tho.
As the movie industry has been (and still is!) struggling to keep us from making backups, what makes you think you and I would be able to do that?

if you feel like paying for x copy go for it. shrink is not hard at all. plus gives you 10x the options. AND doesnt give a lame screen everytime you play the movie.
