  1. hello

I need to edit a mpg movie in premiere and I hear premiere sucks at editing mpgs, so I was thinking in converting it to avi but all the avi converters out there either modify the size of my movie or compress it to divx which premiere can't handle either.

Which program would you recommend? or do you think theres an easier way to do it?

Please help me I need this urgent I only have a few hours!!!

    Thanks

  2. how much diskspace do you have?

use virtualdub mod and huffy codec to create an editable avi.

  3. Thanks that worked , but I want to split the file so I can transport it on cds, right now its about 850 mb with no audio which is ok and premiere has no problems with it, I tried avi mpeg asw splitter but it does some wierd things to the color.

    any ideas?

You can split the mpeg with TMPGEnc. Go to File>MPEG Tools>Merge and Cut. Add your file and click "Edit".

  5. Yup that was my first choice but tmpgenc gives me a "illegal mpeg video stream" when I try to cut pieces that the minutes have two digits, for example if I want to cut form minute 3 to minute 5 it does this fine, but if I want to cut from minute 15 to 17 it gives me the error.

It turns out that avi mpeg asw splitter works the color error only appears sometimes in media player.

    Thanks for your response
