  1. I just checked Sony's Support web site and I am not receiving that "small window" with message that updated version of DLA and RecordNow DX is not available. Does it mean that it is ? I am not at my home computer so I don't have the right link to check it. Can somebody check it or post link here ?

And just as an bonus.... this might be good place to inform if there is new updated version of sofware that was included with this drive.

What are the latest versions, anyway ?

We're sorry, but the free bonus software RecordNow DX and DLA is not quite ready for downloading. We anticipate it will be available in mid November. Please re-visit the download site in mid November to download the bonus software. We regret any inconvenience.

  10. I have RecordNow Max 4.5, does this DX give me anything I don't have with RecordNow Max already?

  11. Good question. I have no idea what would be difference with DX. DOes anybody know ?

  12. RecordNow DX basically just gives you a ton more options to tweak your burn settings. It's like the comparison between Nero and Nero Express. If you install DX, your original RecordNow will remain on your system, so you will be able to use both.

  13. Where can I find more info about DX ? On Stompic web site I can see only RecordNow Max and Max Platinum.

  15. Click on the link for "English". Just hit "cancel" if it asks you to install any language packs.

Here are some notes copied directly from their website (in English no less ):

"You can update to RecordNow DX, which features a wide variety of capabilities including video CD (VCD) creation and MP3 encoding."

More options than WHAT? Maybe you didn't read my post carefully, but I clearly specified that I have RecordNow Max 4.5. That is not the RecordNow that's included with the Sony as you appear to be comparing it to. So I'm comparing RecordNow Max 4.5, which is a commercially purchased program vs RecordNow DX.

Again, my original RecordNow is RecordNow Max, NOT the version included with the Sony drive which I uninstalled because of its lacking features compared to RecordNow Max which I already had. The question was Max vs DX.

  17. More confusing.... So there is

    RecordNow Max
    RecordNow Max Platinum
RecordNow (that comes with Sony drive)
RecordNow DX (upgrade of RecordNow that comes with Sony drive)

Is this correct ? If so, is there place (or somebody that know this) where one can find what would be difference between them ?

Sorry. I was comparing RecordNow (Sony OEM) to RecordNow DX. (I was actually replying to donpedro's post and assumed that is what he was asking since that was the main topic of this thread.)

It's hard to say what the differences are between RecordNow Max vs. DX since the Veritas website does not give any OEM support. My best guess is that DX is the OEM equivalent of Max (retail).

Without RecordNow (oem) installed on your system, I don't think that DX will install in anything other than demo mode anyway.

  19. They added some nice tool....

    DriveCheck Diagnostic Tool

The DriveCheck Diagnostic Tool is a quick and easy test that determines if your device is defective or working properly. DriveCheck performs read and write tests on your drive. Within minutes, you will know if the drive passed or failed.

The test can be run on SCSI and EIDE drives on a Windows platform. A new CD-R or CD-RW disc must be used to perform the test (a used CD-RW disc can be used if a Full Erase has been done). A formatted disc cannot be used.

Once the tests are completed, you will get a message telling you if the drive passed or failed the diagnosis. A file called RMA.zip will be created on your hard drive, containing the test results. If your DriveCheck test fails, you may contact Sony Technical Support to receive authorization to send your drive in for replacement. See the complete instructions below for the proper testing procedure.
And this link might be helpful for RecordNow DX updates...

  20. I did the upgrade to DX 4.5 - what crap, an update of crap.

I hear Max is the better program in ease of use & support. At least Nero has settings for something that is labelled DVD. RecordNow & DX are labelled "CD" everywhere and DX just adds a tiny bit of DVD burning under a thick veneer of confusing CD labels.

What does it take to have software that has DVD splashed all over it, allows you to burn what you want & tweek if you have to?

  21. Well, RecordNow Max 4.5 might not have DVD written all over it, but so far it's given me much better playback compatibility than my Nero burned discs. Nero gives a lot more options for things like UDF 1.02, etc., but RecordNow Max "just works."

For me 1.0f works great and I don't recomend to use 1.0d but there might be somebody looking for it.

  23. JasonK - what settings/steps do you use? RecordNowDX 4.56 won't record my VIDEO_TS folder that is only 4GB.

  24. My drive came with software disc 3.20W and there is no link to download Record Now DX on the disc, as is promised on the drive box. (Record Now 4.5 is on the disc.)

There is a link to download DLA.

  25. Kitty, I dont change much. I compiled my VIDEO_TS in Maestro (and an empty AUDIO_TS) , start a new DATA project in RecordNow Max 4.5 (it's not the DX,) set to UDF without joliet, set to close disc, make sure VIDEO_TS/AUDIO_TS specified option is checked, import the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS and burn away.

    MrZippy, try this link:

  27. Bought my DRU-500A two weeks ago and having nothing but trouble with RecordNow!

First, it wouldn't burn VIDEO_TS folder at all, even with file size under 4G (someone has the same problem).

Second, it freezes all the time and I had to reboot.

Then my Windows 2000 Pro won't start and I ended up reformat my hard drive and re-install everything (Windows 2000 repair and Safe Mode didn't work). Luckily I was able to use my other machine to hookup my hard drive as slave and retrieved my data.

Now with all new installation and clean registry the damn RecordNow still freezes!!! Anyone had this problem? Well, at least it burns VIDEO_TS folder now, if it didn't freeze on me. But after it's done burning and you hit "Done", it freezes again!!!!

    XP 2000, 512MB, 60G.

  28. twen -

I had the exact problem you did with Recordnow 4.5 crashing Win 2k. For me, it happened when I clicked "erase media" on a TDK +RW which caused an OS crash and made my machine warm boot. Could not boot Win 2k, and none of the repair options worked either.

I did not see the DRU500a listed as supported in the documentation for Recordnow on the CD-ROM. I suspect that it's incompatible and therein lies the cause of the problem.

Sony tech support claims it works and that I had a "system" problem, which I find very hard to believe. Neither Veritas or Stompinc officially responded to inquiries (OEM support is Sony only). I now use NERO for burning and erasing and it works just fine.
