  1. I'm using DVDShrink, DVDFAB, and Nero 6 to burn with a Plextor 708A. Here's my problem. I've burned the same movie (4.2gigs) at 2x that took 26 mins, 4x that took 25 mins, and 8x that took 28 mins. What am I doing wrong? The burner is rated at 8x with Ricoh blanks (which I'm using). I just want to make full use of it's 8x capabilities. Thanks in advance.

  2. I also use a 708A(Firmware Upgraded) and Nero. On the burn tab there is a box that says, "Determine Maximum Speed". If it's not checked, try checking it for one burn and unchecking it after that for the same media.
If it is checked, try unchecking it. In my case, it was checked by default.
After unchecking it, most of my 4x started burning at 8x. I say most because some brands just refuse to burn at 8x. And some have errors if I allow 8x. Hope that helps.

  5. My Plextor 708A is burning at a very low speed. An hour and change to burn on a 4X Matrix DVD +R. What is the problem here? Why can't i burn a dvd within 20mins? Someone, please help. I feel like riping out the dam drive and throwing it out my window.

    John Clark,

Please, tell when to wait below your window

You should not search the problem in the drive: 708 is one of the best.
Look at firmware, read some more post about your drive and resolve your problem.

About throwing: is good idea for me - not for you

  7. Stats, I assume you have a Plextor 708A, otherwise you wouldn't be telling me not to throw it out the window. So let me ask you this: what media do you use?
