  1. Is there a less expensive way to capture/record HDTV broadcasts than buying a DVHS recorder??

I realize that I'd have to buy a HDTV decoder/card and would need a very big hdd correct? the problem is, my home theater is situated in a separate room from my pc system.. i'm not sure how to tackle this.. Please advise. Thank you.

    1. buy a HDTV decoder/card .

    2. get a wireless HDTV transmitter/receiver (not all that expensive)

there is a bunch of them at tigerdirect.com by grandtec ..

  3. Great.. thanks. But is there any drawback using wireless, i.e., loss in quantity or quality? And any recommendations as to which card?

  5. By the time you price out the cost of a HTPC (Home Theatre PC) along with $300 for the HDTV capture card... D-VHS starts to look price competitive.

AVSForum has an entire section dedicated to HTPC and HDTV.

  6. Yes, you have a point.. But I'm also thinking of the price of DVHS tapes and longevity vs. storing on hdd or DVD-R. I can xfr captured HDTV content to DVD-R (with some re-encoding, no??).

After reading a bit, I also understand that some cards encrypt the content captured and some don't.
