DVD Burning

I have recently bought a Pioneer 107 8X DVD+/-R/RW Burner and am using Ritex Grade A 4 speed disks. It seems I can only ever burn at 2x. I've tried Nero 6 and both Easy Cd Creator 6 and 7. I have a P4 2.4 Ghz with 1Gig of Ram so I know it is not a speed or memory issue. Does anyone have any clues as to how to get these to burn at 4x or what disks will burn at 4x.

download and install dvdinfopro or dvdidentifier.
check to see if the disks are actually 4x disks.

if they are, try checking for updated firmware.

That sounds more likely to be firmware. I have used several types of Ritek 4x and can choose spped quite freely. I usually use 2x as it guarantees less problems with the burn, however it could do 4x if required.

Check out some searches for your driver and firmware upgrades and the freak guy suggested

I have just downloaded the most current firmware and changed my IDE settings from PIO to DMA 2. I will also run the programs you both have mentioned and see what happens.

To change you DMA Settings in XP, right click my cmputer-hardware-device manager-IDE/ATAPI Controllers. Click on IDE Controller for your DVD then go to properties-advanced settings. Change the settings from there.

Thanks everyone for your help. I finally can write at 4x now. I think a combination of resetting the DMA setting and the new firmware from Pioneer fixed the problem.

I flashed my Pioneer 107 last night with Flashman's firmware and I can now 4x Ritex disca at a blazing 8x. No errors or any other problems. I reccommend this for anyone who wants to burn fast BUT MAKE SURE YOU READ THE INSTRUCTIONS AND CHANGE THE DRIVE LETTER IF NECESSARY!!
