Cheers for that, I have been using MainConcepts MPEG encoder and sometimes having a few problems, I have also tried TMPGEnc but that doesn't do such a good job.

I have ran Virtual Dub and I have imported my mpeg file but I don't know the settings or how to save it into an mpeg (2) file as all the saves are for .avi

Is there a really usefull guide on this product?

    Thanks
    JLR

  3. Unless I'm completely off-planet at the moment (this is always a possibility) VirtualDub only saves to .avi files.

You'd need to frameserve to an encoder from VirtualDub or load the .avi in the encoder directly...

TMPGEnc should be able to do a fairly good conversion internally. Remember, though, it's somewhat GIGO in this case, as you're taking a 'limited' stream and simply applying it's 'lesser' standard to a format with more 'robust' standards.

you are not completely off-planet (at least in your answer above ) -- v-dub can not make a mpeg2 file ...

also -- the question should be raised, is there a need to convert mpeg1 to mpeg2 ? often not ..

  5. Just needed the reality check, having been discussing the practical use of nuclear weapons most of the day.

    JLR,

Is your destination DVD? If so, you can author DVDs with MPEG-1 video...
