I have two files that were created from ffmpeg from an original mpeg file. These two created files are an mpeg for vcd and an audio mp3 what can I do now with them as I would like to burn them in toast but it states the mp3 is not a valid file.

    Thanks

mp3 is not a valid file, it must be a ac3 or a lpcm file (or in some players - a mpeg1 layer 2 audio file) ..

howerver what is it you are looking to do with the .mpeg file in the first place?

perhaps there is a better way to achieve what you are trying to do

The original mpeg about 648mb in size, is a KVCD. Macman here at the forum gave me some instructions to turn it into a VCD, which I did although contrary to his discription I should have had a bin and cue file whereas I ended up with a mpeg and mp3 file? Can I use these to be placed onto a vcd? How can I do that now? or can someone guide me though all the necessary settings with ffmeg to turn a KVCD to VCD as toast 6 will not burn KVCD. I have trying to get this working for months, so anyones help would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks

It would be nice to know what you did previously. What happens when you open the original mpeg in ffmpegX and then select the VCD 'Quick Preset'? It should be very simple.

As macman wrote, I did the following instructions:-
Start with the Video tab click open and locate your mpg file and then click on save as and set up the file name and where you want it to wind up. Go down to the Video Codec drop down menu and select MPEG 1/ ffmpeg make sure the encode check box is checked ( it should be by default) then move down to the left side and set your min. time. Click on the Best button to set the Video bitrate.

Go to right side and make sure that Autosize is set for VCD. Now go to the Tools Tab. On the lower left side check the box for author as VCD, uncheck the split box. Now go back to the video tab and click encode.

You will see the somewhat familiar spinning Apple loading symbol next to it. Than a process progress box will open and show you the encoding being done. When it reach's 100% click the little I bottom in the box and check out what it did and if there were any error messages.

OK now go up to the menu bar and click on the ffmpeg process and remove the finished item. Go to your folder where you had the file and you will find the encoded file and a cue.mpg and bin.mpg. I use Toast 6.03 and I just click on copy and click on bin/cue in the menu on the left and drop the cue file into toast and burn.

You could do further processing and convert that bin/cue to a regular Mpeg 1 file if you want.
If you have further questions post a reply to this thread since I am notified by email when a post is made.

Any help on why it did work?

    Thanks

That sounds like it should have worked. It would be easier if you choose the Quick Preset, that way everything is set properly, just in case. You can either try it again using the VCD Quick Preset or try using the two files you have. To use the files you have, open the video file you have, then select the VCD preset, then go to the Audio section, click add audio, and select the .mp3 file. Go back to the video section and click on the Best button to set the Video bitrate. You might want to go back to 'Tools' and de-select 'split in chunks'. Hit 'Encode'. You might want to take this to the ffmpegX forum. I would start over using the preset.
