I made a Ulead mpeg video with the Ulead mpeg conversion in their Video Studios SE version 7.
I was wondering if there is a quality difference between this mpeg conversion utility and say TMPGEnc?
I seemed to work way faster then the TMPGEnc program.

Almost certainly, but only you can decide if it is signifacnt enough for you to choose TmpGenc over VS 7.

TmpGenc is one of the slowest encoders around, but configured properly it can produce excellent results. It is relativley user-friendly compared to some other encoders and it is fantastic Value for Money.

    Thanks Bugster.
Can you help me with something?
Now I am real interested in exactly how these mpeg rendering programs work.
How do they take the uncompressed data and compress it to the requested mpeg format?
Is there a site you could direct me that might explain this in a somewhat simple way?

Oh there is a difference allright. I am not sure which encoding engine Ulead uses but I can spot the difference between a TmpGenc encoded mpeg and a CCE encoded mpeg 9 times out of 10.

As to wether the difference is worth spending extra money to switch from one to the other, well, thats up to the individual.
