I have a 1ghz dual processor Mac with 1GB of RAM and 320GB of HD space. I also have a Superdrive and a 8x FireWire DVD-/+RW.
I am using DVDBackUp now and the proccesors top out at about 35% capacity even with it, Safari and Mail running and only use 400MB of Ram. That still leaves me plenty of proccesor cycles and RAM to run another decoding app.
Do you guys think its possible to back up two DVDs at the same time?
Anyone ever try it before?

This should work fine. I often rip a dvd in the background while doing something much more processor-intensive (such as running dvd2onex or ffmpeg) in the foreground. The rip might be a little slower than normal but will be fine. Burning is a different story though, I wouldnt attempt simultaneous ripping and burning on my single proc 667mhz, with your 2 cpus you might be able to burn two dvds at once but I'm not sure. (You can burn 2 cds at once for sure).

since the drives are connected via two distinct means you should be ok
It sort of freaks if you have two drives on the same internal cable and rip at the same time from both!
burning 2 dvds at same time?:
only with two different burning apps
and on two different sources
I tried this with two internal drives on same chain, man what a bad idea!
but your situation should pose no problems -
That works fine, just duplicate your ripping app, and run both copies at once. MacTheRipper 2.0 might have a nice dual ripping interface for those lucky enough to have 2 DVD readers, but that won't be out for a little while.
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté." -
I thought it was OK to rip a DVD and use DVD2One at the same time, but I was watching a burned copy of The Two Towers and when it got to the end where the trees attack the bad guys.....it cut to Planet of the Apes! This also happened on a copy of The Burbs (it cut to In Like Flint) but it happend during the end credits so I didn't care.
But right at the climax of Two Towers! Anyways, now I will only do one thing at a time.
Has this ever happened to anyone else? I don't know how to pinpoint the problem. -
rofl, that's . . . intense . . . duly noted, I'll be on the lookout for that problem, but I have yet to experience it, and I often rip and shrink at the same time.

how crazy is that!
i rip and dvd2one almost all the time!
never ever had it do this! how would it even grab the files of the other movie?
oh well -
Yeah it's crazy. I don't know if it happened when I was using DVD2One + oSEX (or DVDBackup (but now I use MacTheRipper!))....or using Toast and DVD2One.
I am doing all this on a Powerbook too. I will experiment again and see if it happens.
OR MAYBE I AM CRAZY AND PETER JACKSON MEANT TO HAVE APES IN THE TWO TOWERS! -
Yeah, don't you remember that part in Two Towers where Charleton Heston gets captured by a bunch of guys in gorilla suits, and then the hobbits bust him out of jail, along with his scantily-clad female elf cell-mate, and they find out that Mordor is really New York city in the future? Wait, maybe I'm confusing things . . . no, that's right, hobbits and apes, makes sense to me. In fact, I was disappointed to see all those great scenes with apes in the Tolkien books cut out in the movie; damn that Peter Jackson!
