I have had both the Pioneer A06 drive and now the new A07 drive. In addition, I also have the Iomega Super DVD drive. I use Verbatim 4x spindle media. When I use the Pioneer drive to burn and the Super DVD as the source, it will work great when I burn at 2x. When I burn at 4x, it will complete, but occasionally the image will contain video artifacts such as color video blocks and general compression pixelation. I get NONE of this when I burn at 2x or when I use the Super DVD drive at 4x. The Super DVD does not completely burn at 4x - it takes about 17 or 18 minutes to do a 2-hour disc, where the Pioneer drives take about 12-14. I'm wondering if this is a common problem with Pioneer drives - maybe the 4x speed is not totally perfected yet? I doubt whether it's the media because at 2x, it's absolutely perfect. It's also perfect (as I said) when using the Super DVD drive at its own 4x burn speed. FYI, I have a Pentium III 550 mhz processor and am using Windows 98SE. Maybe my system is not fast enough to make an exact clone at 4x speed? The programs I have used are Nero (which sometimes won't even let me burn at 4x even though the drive is capable and the media is 4x), NTI DVD/CD Maker, and RecordItNow Max. All programs produce the same results at 4x and at 2x. Any thoughts anyone has on this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
