First of all I DID post this in DVD Authoring at first but then saw this category and thought it is a better fit..sorry!
Hello,
I have been working diligently for the past few days on converting my wedding video to DVD. I have been using tmpgenc DVD author which I am happy with thus far. I have succesfully created a custom menu that I am happy with and have the mpeg files in the proper format. My only remaining issue is this:
Sometimes when I burn the dvd and go play it in my dvd player it WILL NOT play out of the digital outputs..only the analog. Other times it will.
(I am using a DVD-R/W and testing it on my tv after testing it using powerdvd's play from hard drive option.)
I have used adobe audition to "clean up" the audio portion, upsample to 48khz, and saved it as a .wav (windows pcm). when I go into tmgenc DVD author i tell it to use my edited files. At first I thought maybe I should have saved as "raw pcm" instead but now that it has worked on at least one occasion I'm guessing maybe certain bitrates are more pleasing to the dvd player than others? I have also told tmpgenc DVD author to reencode it using mpeg1-layer2 @ 224k and 320k..
SO here is my final question..does anyone know what might be causing this? Is there a particular format/bitrate that I need to adhere to? I'm not quite sure what the difference was when I went from producing a copy that WOULD play out of the digital port and the ones that would not?
Once I tackle this sound hurdle my project will be complete! and I can function again in society!!
Thanks
dlv

if you encode it as ac3 -- it will play out the digital port IF you have your player set correctly (some players)

yep..now to just get it to AC3..i heard the only free prog has problems with some pioneer players..which is what i have
...i guess just trying on an RW can't hurt :P. I just don't know what I was doing differently the times that it WOULD play out the digital out and the times that it wouldn't. it's not a REAL big deal but this is my first production and i want it to be PERFECT before i release it to the public..(you know..mom/mom-in-law...etc.)
Thanks

i'm sure that would be best...i was just trying to slide by with the pcm or mp2 so i can get this project FINISHED! I have the space left on the DVD I just am puzzled as to why i haven't gotten consistent digital output.
