My Panasonic DVD-Ram drive disapeared when I installed some region free software for my Pionner DVD-Rom.
Well, I say it disapeared, wWinXP only recognised it as DVD-Rom.
It only recognised it as a burner when I removed the software.

I am using the LG DAD-8020B a real DVD-RAM-drive which can only burn or better to say write to DVD-RAM and non of the other formats and also a LG GRD-8162B-DVD-RAM-capable drive without any burn/write-ability. As a DVD-RAM-driver I have installed the newest DVD-RAM-driver for the LG-GSA-8081B and I do not have problems.

On WIN2KPro which I also use this driver was only required to enable the 8162 to be able to read UDF-2.01-formated DVD-RAMs. Prior to installation of the DVD-RAM-driver I was able to read UDF-1.02-formated DVD-RAMs.

As DVD-RAM-drives are treated as removable media possibly you are required to uninstall the DVD-RAM-drivers if you want to use the drive as a burner instead of a drive for removeable media and DVD-RAMs apparently are treated similar like ZIP-drives. But people who successfully are using LG-GSA-40-XX-drives with DVD-RAMs and at the same time burning DVD+-R/RWs with it should tell their experience.

By the way the LG SAD-8020B can with a DVD-RAM-software "Instant Write" from VOB (now Pinnacle).
