For the life of me, I cannot figure out why my DVD Player and my mom's DVD player will not play my home made vhs to dvd conversions at 352x480. I use TMPGEnc DVD Author for the authoring process. This has been an ongoing battle for me. Anytime I backup a real DVD, I have no problems. Only on my home made conversions. I know there are two standards for burning DVD's, Joilet and UDF. Should I be using one or the other? Oh, I also use TDA to burn. Has anyone else had trouble getting their home made creations to play? Thanks.

  3. It sounds like it has got to be something to do with the format of capture. I'm not saying you're doing something wrong, at all, just saying it sounds to me like somewhere in the process it's being converted to a slightly different format than the standard for DVD players. Could you be more specific on the settings of your conversions please and i'll see if I can be of any assistance, since I also cap vid's.

I use TMPGEnc DVD Author and use mostly 352x480 which result from captures.

I have no problems with my DVD-R discs.

I do not use TMPGEnc DVD Author to burn my discs yet I have never heard of anyone having a problem using it.

I discovered a long time before using TMPGEnc DVD Author that DVD Decrypter is about as good as you can get for BURNING so I'm stubborn and still use it.

I use TMPGEnc DVD Author to create an ISO IMAGE FILE then burn that with DVD Decrypter.

The discs seem to be very compatable.

Sometimes media is the problem when it comes to compatability. Sometimes it's the type of media you use. Sometimes it is the audio format. You should use LPCM WAV or AC-3 and stay away from MP2. There is a new plug-in for TMPGEnc DVD Author that for something like $29.00 will convert your audio from MP2 or LPCM to AC-3

    It's worth it!

It very well may be something I'm doing wrong. I capture at 352x480, 4 Mbps VBR, and audio in MP2 format. I've tried converting audio to AC3, but that didn't improve my luck. My only success has come from a DVD with 3 30-minute movies backed up from DVD, and 1 30-minute movie backed up from VHS. This mixture of formats works for some reason. The backups from DVD are 720x480 8 Mbps CBR, AC3 audio. I would use TDA and put all 4 movies on different tracks, and everything was fine. But when my dvd consists of only my VHS backup, that's when I run into problems.
    Other info:
I use ATI AIW MMC 7.7 to do my captures. I just bought one of the ADS Instant DVD 2.0 products (on rebate sale for $99.00 at Circuit City). I'm in the process of making my first movie with that. I have it ready to burn, but haven't had the time to do it. We'll see if that works any better. I may have to try DVD Decrypter like Fulci does. (Fulci, your picture scares me). Maybe I'll have better compatibility luck by burning an ISO. Thanks for all the suggestions.
