  1. I recently picked up the E80 and have one question I could not find a solution to in the manual...

I know when dubbing to DVD, you select the titles and it transports those titles, in the exact same form, to the DVD. I also know there is no way on the hard drive to combine two seperate titles/programs.

But I'm wondering if there is a way to essentially combine them manually? Meaning, perhaps playing the recordings while directly recording to DVD, pause at the end of program A, then unpause as you play/record program B. The only theoretical way I could see to do this is with One-Touch dubbing, but I have yet to test it on a DVD-RAM(not ready to pop open the included disc as I might yet return the recorder).

Would this work, or is there absolutely no way to combine two programs into one title?

  2. Did you check creating "Play List" and "Dubbing Play List" ?

  3. Don't be so obvious. :P

That might work....though reading the part of the manual on Play lists made my eyes glaze over.

I will have to look at the more in depth...thanks.

    You can do it easily...

When you dub from hard drive to DVD-R, you create a dubbing list (you just pick the programs you want from the HDD). Depending on the amount of video, you may have to reduce the recording rate (or select FR mode).

When it finalizes the DVD, it will create separate titles for each program you choose. These titles will make up the entries on the menu. Within each title, the panny will assign chapter markers every 5 minutes -- this facilitates quicker skipping through a given title.

    I understand that.

But what I am trying to do, to be precise, is to combine those many titles into one title entry on the menu, to reduce menu clutter for many small HDD programs(or pieces of one program) I might try to dub.

You're missing the point of play lists ..... if you create a play list that spans multiple originating programs (meaning that you just keep editing during building a big play list), the E80H will switch to the next recorded program on the HD as source material to keep feeding the play list. Once you are done, you will have one BIG play list that spans multiple programs and you can give it one name for the menu (as a single Play list name).

    Cheers,

Then that is the solution I seek. Thanks much.
