  1. I posted this question in a different area of the forum, then realized it was probably in the wrong place. I'm going to build a system and trying to figure out what I'll need. From what I've read I will get the Canopus ADVC 100 video capture card. Here's where I get confused, I assume I still need a separate video card. Since I'll have the Canopus card, should I go with a good basic card or what?? Any suggestions? I'm not really a gamer so not to worried about the high end cards- if not needed.
    Thanks James

James, if you're not bothered about gaming then something like a Radeon 9600 non pro would suffice. They seem to be coming down in price, i've seen a 9600 for £48/$90.

If you don't do *any* gaming you could always forego getting a video card entirely and opt for a motherboard with integrated video. The money you save could be allocated for a bigger hard drive, more RAM etc.

  4. The only issue with integrated components is that they can negatively affect overall system performance because they use motherboard resources. I would go with a non integrated video card at least.

I bought my nvidia 64mb graphics card at a time when the most graphic intensive thing I ever did was run Windows Mediaplayer in fullscreen mode with the cool psychodelic graphic thingie going when I played MP3 files.

And that's not even close to the dumbest thing I've ever wasted my money on! :P
