Just wanted to give everyone a heads up for an upcoming sale at Staples. I work at the local Staples and got hold of next weeks ad early and wanted to tell you all that they will have 10 pack of Sony DVD's + or -, with jewel case, on sale for $9.94. Sale starts Sunday March 28th! I looked at pack and said made it Taiwan.

Are they CMC or Ritek? CMC, its garbage and forget it. Ritek, worth a try but not particulary attractive.

I think they are on sale only Sony 2X and made by Sony not Ritek or CMC.
Better get the 4X not 2X.

Sorry guy's, and gal's, I don't know what they are! I thought I would just pass some info on that they were on sale! Here is a link to the +'s

    http://www.staples.com/Catalog/Browse/Sku.asp?PageType=1&Sku=511206

and here is the link to the -'s

    http://www.staples.com/Catalog/Browse/Sku.asp?PageType=1&Sku=511203

You can go to Staples.com and put in these numbers for a search, 511206 and 511203.

As you will see the price is regular $24.98. Starting Sunday they will be $15.00 of instantly so you pay just $9.94.

I bought 2 packs of SONY -R DVD discs from Staples back in December I think it was because they were on sale for $14.99 or something like that.

One package said MADE IN TAIWAN and one said MADE IN AUSTRIA and both burned very well with ZERO READ ERRORS using DVDInfoPro

Probably the only media I would trust that doesn't say MADE IN JAPAN

BTW all discs simply said SONY for the media ID/code

Like I said the media code simply says, "SONY"

I've read since my last post somewhere that these are Made by Sony but odd that some say MADE IN TAIWAN and some say MADE IN AUSTRIA yet both are Made by Sony and say SONY for the Media Code/ID

    For the - R's ---

My local Staples only had made in Taiwan. With this media code SONY04D1

This is the first Sony media I've ever bought, and they look almost like TDK's. Could pass for the same top with different letters (Sony on one side, and DVD-R on the other). The hub is branded with Sony and DVD-R version 2.0. The dye layer has the same looks as TDK.

Makes me wonder who is actually making these discs. TDK's disc plant is in Japan, but all of the recent TDK media is from Taiwan, with a TDK02 media ID. The TDK 4x (TTG01 and TTG02) are also from Taiwan, and now these Sony.

TDK 2x and TDK 4x will only burn at 1x in my A03, same as these Sony 4x. The made in Japan TDK, and other 2x/4x media are 2x in my A03.

To the best of my knowledge, Sony doesn't own a disc plant, plus they are HQ'd in Japan also.

    Anyways.....
after a few KProbe scans, everything looks pretty good. About equal to the bulk Prodisc I've been using, and slightly higher PI/PO errors than Taiyo Yuden. No block errors. Pretty good buy for $10
