  1. I have installed it following the directions that were supplied to me from the manufacture. It took me three times for it to be recongized as a drive. It would read like a champ, in all formats. I went to write different dvd data. I tried making a DVD video and back up of my some computer files. All with out exceeding the size of the DVD. I tried both recommended DVD-RAM, DVD+RW, and not recommended DVD-R. I wouldn't even try to write to it. It would make the back up file and verify it... then when it would get ready to burn it just lock up. I tried different software. NERO 6 with DVD and the software that came with it. The software that came with the burner. Gives me a BSOD. Any suggestions?
    My rig is as follows:
    Athlon XP2000+, EPOX EP-8K5A2+, 512MB DDR PC2100, 200GB HD, Sapphire Radeon 9600se 128MB, Plextor 24/10/40 CD-RW, LG GSA-4081B DVD+RW

  2. I just got off the phone with LG. They are telling me two things... First that it sounds like my DVD burner is defective. The next thing is that my DVD software (Nero vs. B's Gold recorder5) are in conflict and that is why it blue screened. I am sending my burner back and I will let you know how it works out.

  3. I got my drive back from the company. I confirmed I had uninstalled all software and prior driver. I reinstalled the drive. The same thing. I can read but no burning. I looked in the device manager. The drive at first appears properly setup. When I read the device in more detail it says it is a CD-rom drive. Does any one know how to force the computer into recongizing it as a DVD burner?

    Please help.

  4. Well I finally got it to work and it works like a champ. I was on the phone with LG tech support for about 2 hours and no luck. They were helpful and listen to my problems but to no avail. What worked was doing an XP upgrade of the OS and that allow the apps to see the DVD burner as a burner and not just a dvd reader. I am so happy with this drive now that it works.
