I have a Windows 2000 Server running at home. I have my PC with a PCTV PCI card hooked up to my Satellite receiver.

Is there a way to start recording a show, and have the results saved to a ASF file or let the 2000 Server Media streaming host the file live?

Or could I have it capture multiple 15 minute files directly to ASF that I could browse to via teh IIS server and in a way view each segment on a 15 minute delay?

I have Windows XP Pro on the capture PC and have IUVCR for a capture package. I also have Pinnacle Studio 8.

Can this be done? I don't care hwo cludgy it is as long as it works.

Got to watch my 125 qualifier races at Daytona tomorrow from work. hehe

  2. It would be a lot easier to just play the stream directly off the Windows Media Encoder. The WME allows up to, I think, 15 connections so just start encoding then look at what the "connections" tab is to see what the link is. Just make sure you test it before you leave the house. You can write the files to your HDD while encoding it live, also, if you want to watch it later. Not sure if you can do segmented capture like you're talking about.

I think you misunderstood. I said "connect to the encoder with your player" not the server. You won't need the server at all.

I think I did. The PC with the capture card does not have Windows Media Encoder on it. The 2000 server has the web server and Windows Encode on it. My firewall only allows port 80. I don't want to open up 1755-5000 to allow udp based mmc://.... stuff. I just want to do http://....

I was just looking for someone who's doen it already and could give me the low down on how to configure it since I'm short on time.

I do it for a living.

You have WM Server on your 2000 server right? Why not just setup a publishing point on there that pulls from the encoder?

It's easy. Just read the docs that come with WM server about publishing points. All you'd do is create a publishing point that has information telling the server where to get the stream (namely, the encoder IP and port). Then when you want to play it, you tell the player what publishing point on the server you want to play. So the stream goes encoder > server > player. You can do it!

I messed with it for about 2 hours last night and gave up.

I have IuVCR creating WMV files on a subdirectory of my web server. I will browse to them and watch them that way. It will capture in 1/2 hour chunks.

    Thanks!

The biggest problem I had was the only thing I could download was Media Encoder 9 series. My 2000 server said this version is not compatible with it. I found version 7.1 which gave me the same error. I think I was close, but not sure what versions I need to have to make it all work together.

At what point did WM server say it's incompatible? Did you try it?
