I have read through previous posts and cannot seem to find an anwser to my problem. I am using an Asus V9520HT FX5200 to capture mpeg2 from from my vcr. My settings are 352x480 29.97fps, 4861bps vbr, 48000 mpg2. I captured about 30 vhs tapes using this setting as well as at 704X480 without any problem. All of a sudden I noticed particularly on bright scenes that the screen would flicker to dark and then back to normal. On some scenes you could see the scene getting brighter and brighter and then flicker to dark. It happens on all scenes wether light or dark. Now it has got prgressively worse. I tried different tapes, changed the video card, the cables and even the vcr. Still the same problem. Changed the Nvidia drivers back to the original and still the same. This problem can be seen in the preview screen just playing the vhs tape before hitting the capture button. Am using an Asus P4P800 MB, 1gb ram, 80GB WD HD. Have tried VS7, Nero, and Win Producer. All the same. Am a newbie and this is my first post so please bear with me.

It sounds like a Macrovision (i.e., copy protection) problem. I notice you have tried different tapes, but have you tried playing one of the tapes you previously captured without a problem to see if it now exhibits this issue?

Yes Its macrovision. Search the site the topic has come up before. There are stabilizers that you can buy.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway. -
I also thought it could be macrovision but I also captured the same movie using the same tape with a Asus V9520VS which I borrowed. The VS is one step down from the HT (home theater). It captured 2.20 hr. no problem (no flicker) but the quality wasn't as great although that could have been because I didn't really setup up the card just let windows do its thing. Also there was a point where I thought I had the problem solved, I captured it twice on the same night (testing the system) and it was ok. The next day it was back to the same problem. This particular movie was recorded from satellite one week ago. Just previous to this I had recorded "Finding Nemo" and the whole thing was perfect (capture to dvd). Unless Directv has recently add macrovision to their transmissions. I need help guys or at least some suggestions to try.
thanks
