I'm looking for a card that has analog in and can capture streams from satellite( i live in canada, so I want a dvb card that can cap dtv streams). also is there any analog in/dvb/tv tuner/graphics card combo out there? I'm getting a new motherboard and processor soon and Since it doesn't have an on board video or audio card it would be nice if the capture card had that also. any ideas? thanks

ATI has a bunch of graphics/video cards that also capture video.

Hit the "Capture Cards" link on the left and click on "graphics" checkbox...or maybe it's AGP. You'll see.

yeah I already looked into the capture card thing but I'm reading all of the reviews for the dvb cards and they all talk about the UK not the US and canada. I was just wondering if it's possible to capture a directv directly without having to re-encode and just author and burn it?

I *think* the ATI AIW cards will let you do direct-to-MPEG-2 encoding. I know for sure that cards like the Hauppauge PVR-250 or 350 cards or the ADS Instant DVD device will encode directly to MPEG-2 using hardware on the card.

I know some cards can capture directly to mpeg-2 but I'm looking for it to capture the stream itself, the DVB stream. I know people do this in the UK alot but I'm not sure over here.

  6. You can do it w/ DISH and BEV not DTV because it doesn't use the standard DVB format, the best card is the Nexus-S it has an onboard decoder so you only need 500mhz system, I use a SkyStar2 and works like a charm

  7. Jumping on this thread, now please explain to me why U.S. doesn't encode directly to MPEG-2? Normally? I do and I want to know if the U.S. normally does something else.
