I found a cellphone LG VX6000. Apperantly someone lost it some time ago since there is no service on it. It was used before since there are a few pics on it. What I was wondering about is what am I suppose to do with it. Is it legal for me to keep it, and can I get in trouble for doing so.

Sounds to me like you're trying to justify keeping it.
Only you can answer that man.
Just because it has no service doesn't mean it's old, it might have been lost yesterday and then the provider barred the phone.
    Who know's?
    Bottom line...
...nothing you find is legally yours, whether you keep it or not is down to you.

if theres no service on it, the person that lost it probably cancelled it and got a new phone. you can call the service provider, i think the vx6000 is a verizon phone, and they might be able to track the msl number from the phone and see whos it was. but then again, if that person already got a new phone, why would they need another one? its up to you what you want to do

Actually, the passage in the 5th ammendment is "Possession is 9/10s of the law!"

VX6000 is a Verizon Phone, i have one. I dont like it, it' lack of an 800MHZ Analog transmittor hurts it.

Why would you keep it, it's got no service and if you take it to be activated, most likly it's gonna be red flagged when they program it.

I would return it to my local verizon store or call someone from the contacts list and ask who's it is.

Agree with Greg12. It's probably red flagged. My daughter lost hers and called it in. They locked the service and waited for someone to attempt activation. So far no one has. We know it was found because it was used just prior to cancellation. The company knows who was called but can't take action without the police and the police won't act because it wasn't stolen. However the phone can never be activated. The card chip and the phone serial number are both registered and now useless. The phone has been replaced but my daughter waited about 3 weeks in case it was returned. All they had to do is call the company.

  10. sell it to somebody

    preferably somebody you don't know.

  11. You can do one of two things.

    1) Return it to Verizon.
    2) eBay it.

  12. Why can't you hand it in to the police as lost property? That's how I got one of my old mobiles back, but they wouldn't tell me who handed it in so I could get them something.

  13. Post a thread on dvdrhelp.com offering to sell the phone in trade for serial cracks or keygens of your favorite programs.

A friend of mine found a bicycle at a train station and called the police.
He said the gratitude he got from the boys mother (who owned the bike) far outweighed any profit he could have made in selling the bike.

Must have been on something, or in a good mood (don't know which is more likely)

I'd call the police on it and ask them what to do.

I'll just drop it off at a verizon store. I don't want to call police then go there, maybe filing a report. Thanks to all.

The unique numbers embedded in the phone will not allow the phone to be used if it was reported stolen. They will know this when new service is attempted, and some stores will confiscate it.

I once found a cellphone. I found the owner by going through the saved phone numbers programmed into the phone and calling one labeled home.

As it turned out, the owner of the phone was a small business owner who had lent it to an employee who had lost it the night before and the person I talked to didn't even know that the phone was lost yet. Anyway. the person who lost it was glad to get it back, which was espically important since another employee of the company had lost a cellphone the previous week.

Also, I hate cellphones, so I was glad to get rid of it. And I don't know much about them, but my guess is that you couldn't sell it due to the activation requirements and without the charger and other accessories and beat up like the one I found was I doubt it's worth anything anyway.

I did found a cellphone on a train once and I handed over to the next train station for the "Lost Property Department".

Some guys on the train were staring at me when I retreived the phone.

I think they were thinking of me as thief and just about to use the phone illegally, of course I wasn't.

I had no intention of using it and ready to give to the authorities.

    Pacman,

You mention the Police and Al Quaeda in the same breath, watch your ass doesn't wind up in Gitmo.

And Will Hay showing brotherly love for his fellow man? Will, you're mellowing in your old age.

How's the baby coming along? Mama's feeling well, baby's doing fine? April, no, don't have time to go back and check. Best wishes, pal, hope she looks more like Mom than Dad, although at birth, most of them kinda resemble Shep.

Actually, my last was the most beautiful thing I ever saw, and HER baby might just have been more so. Maybe it's age.

    Cheers,

    George
