But there has been so many releases of this bit of software latley i dont know which films ive backed up with which versions, but some of my films i've had problems with does any 1 know which version of dvd shrink 3.1 is the most relaible????

i just done Gone in 60 seconds the other night with 3.1.5 & the menu buttons dont work, i've noticed that 3.1.6 beta2 says that its fixed this problem....
& i did tomb raider 2 a couple of weeks back now with this film, when the film starts the subtitles are on????? also when i try to just play the vob files back on my pc (before i put it on to disc) there was no sound on the files????

  2. all versions are stable to most people. it seems the new versions only provide more/different options. some pepole are still on 1.3.5, some stay with 3.0 beta 5.

i too had trouble with 3.14 & 3.15 forcing the subtitles on when played in my standalone. so i now use 3.1. and all is good.

have you ever successfully backed up a dvd?

are you using win dvd or power dvd to play from hard drive?

    have you seen this site

    http://forum.digital-digest.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=47

it has all the shrink answers.

  3. Hi There joe bananas

Yeah i've been backing up dvd's for a while now... i've been using dvd shrink since 1.3. i was unsure to use 3.0 beta 5 with it been a beta version but it was really good to use.
I was just surprised at these new dvd shrinks having a few bugs in them, you say you use just 3.1... mmm i might go back to that 1.. have you tried out 3.1.6 beta 2????

i normally run them through power dvd to test them out...

  4. yerh i was a fanatical upgrader, if there was a new version out - i wanted it. but i learned my lesson. coasters anyone?

i guess i should try 3.1.6 beta 2. version 3.15 did have many good options. hopefully this subtile bug is sorted.

so if 3 beta 5 was all good, id go back to that.

plus 3 beta 5 does have its high compression advantage.

so just which version is the most loved.... would make for a good poll

  5. Well Cheers Joe Banna

I Just can't help myself, when a new version comes out i like to have it straight away to have a test of it....

but i cant remember which films i did with which versions so i sopose i'll have to test them again...

  6. Does anyone have any idea why when I use DVDshrink 3.1 versions that every time I hit backup the program closes. I seem to not have this same problem with 3.0 beta 5 version or 2.3. I have tried removing the program and reinstalling it. I have even played the DVD first. I would appreciate the help.

    http://forum.digital-digest.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=49

    and watty252 -

you need lots of spare time and a couple of RW's.

  8. Hi all.

Darmel, you could try uninstalling DVD Shrink, and clearing the registry of all DVD Shrink entries.

By the way, I'd recommend not to use v3.1.6 for the time being and sticking with v3.1.5 Final.

  10. Hi there dd looping

is there a reason to stick with 3.1.5 & not with 3.1.6

  11. 3.1.6bx seems to have caused stuttering and locking up in some standalones.

Read DD ' s link on his last post for the whole story.

I'd wait for the dust to settle. 3.1.6 beta 4 was released today/yesterday. but im keeping an eye out for 3.1.6 final.

  12. v3.1.6b4 seems to have fixed the bug I was experiencing.
I say "seems" because I had to use DVD-RW as I'd run out of DVD-R.
I didn't believe the problem was due to media in the first place though, so I can recommend using v3.1.6b4.

  14. Hi watty252.

I will not be able to fully test v3.1.6 Final as I ran out of DVD-Rs.

dvdshrink - the author/developer - emails me the final versions, and directly upload the betas to DVDShrink.info.

  15. So far, with 316b4, ive done a 're-author' on a RW and NO subtitles. woohoo!

I did uncheck 'disable all subpictures etc' though. i never used to, ill have to try without now.

And I still have a 'full disk' to test.

But so, so far so good -

Thank you Mr Shrink. and ddlooping of course.

Okay, what part of my brain isn't functioning today?
    The shrink site states...

Due to bandwidth problems, all DVD Shrink downloads (except v3.1.5) are temporarily suspended.
    Please visit dvdshrink.org
Yet I can't find version 3.1.5 on the official site

by the looks of www.dvdshrink.org , v3.1.6 seems to be finalized, so I would assume it is safe to use again.

  19. Sorry, Will Hay, I forgot to update this text.
    v3.1.6 Final is now available.

However, to confuse the matter even more, dvdshrink has released 3.1.6b7 which fixes a small bug (due to a typo in the code), which might affect some subpictures, in some backups, depending on some of the user choices.

  20. Does anyone have more specific details on the type of situations where the "skipping/freezing during playback" bug would occur?

I generally use the "still frame" feature and try to leave the main movie or episodes at 100%. Will this skipping occur on non-Shrinked parts of the disc, or does it only happen with compressed sections? Does this freezing happen only in full backups or re-authored discs or both?

Does it happen on both PAL and NTSC, interlaced and progressive sources?

I'd appreciate any tips to narrow down the discs I should go back and double-check to see if I need to redo them.

    TIA

P.S. What happened to 316b7? I only see b5 and b4 at the DVDShrink.info link.

    Hi manco.

I'm affraid I had to remove the downloads due to exceeded bandwidth.
I purchased an extra 4GB yesterday but they didn't even last the day.
Another 10GB today, hoping they will last till the end of the month.

I edited my previous post to include a link where most if not all DVD Shrink versions can be downloaded from.

Wow, I guess freeware is never really "free". Thanks for the alternate link. I was worried there might be a bigger bug in b7 that caused it to be removed, but I guess that wasn't the reason.
