I’ve picked up the 411S and was anxious to use it right away. I installed it properly, even using an anti-static wrist band. The drive will see and play CD ROM's, DVD software and DVD film disks. It will write to CDR/RW media. However, it will not see any blank DVD media. I’ve tried all flavors, cheap disks, high quality (recommended) disks, even the disks that came with the drive. Nothing. I am using an 80 conductor cable. I have flashed my BIOS, installed the latest chipset drivers, upgraded the drive’s firmware and even performed a Windows XP Pro overlay. I am running an Athlon 2600 with a gig of ram on a recent MSI motherboard. I’m so out of options. I was wondering if anybody else out there has encountered anything like this, or could offer any suggestions.

What burning software are you using? I'm kind of curious about this situation myself. I see a lot of people with XP having problems with blank DVDs. I have XP home and a Toshiba burner in my laptop and never had any problems.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

this is really the nub of your problem .. It means the problem is media or laser related. the drive is otherwise fine except burning dvd discs. Try many different media types then send it back for an exchange. Oh and make sure you are using Plus or minus not Ram.
And also flash it with the newest fUrwear. that should fox the problem.

The electronic components of the power part adopted a lot of Rubycons.

I’ve tried Roxio 6 and DVDXCopy Platinum as far as software goes. As far as media goes I’ve tried Memorex, TDK, some no name stuff and the disks that came with the drive (I would have thought those would have worked at least.) Crap, I guess it’s time to RMA that bad boy. I have heard talk of a bad switch in the 411S. Oh well. Thanx guys!

P.S. I like German sausage, as long as it’s never been attached to anyone.
