I have a Matrox G400 - it's an MJPEG capture card. So I'm capturing to 704x480 NTSC MJPEG AVI and everything looks great. However, when I drag the AVIs into ULead MediaStudio Pro 7.0, it renders the finished DV output all jerky. This is the case if I set the media clip options to "field order a" and the output to the same or if I set them both to "field order b". The only way I don't get the jerky video is if I set them both to "frame based". This leads me to assume the G400 is capturing to MJPEG on a frame level rather than an interlaced field level. There doesn't seem to be any documentation with the card about this and no settings in the MJPEG driver concerning field orders. Anybody know if it's possible to capture Field A based MJPEG on a Matrox capture card like the G400?

I use the G400 which I believe just captures 'Bottom Field First'.

I get the encoder to treat the source as BFF and leave the destination as is. This eliminates the jitters, I believe this is in fact swapping the field order and putting the bottom field on top.

If you adjust both source and destination to be the same then you are probably not changing the field order and the jitters remain.
