  1. If you were starting losing your hairs while compiling, I got good news for you. mpeg2enc binaries (1.7.0. Altivec version) are now hosted here :

    http://mjpeg.sourceforge.net/MacOS/

To install for ffmpegX and start encoding SVCDs, do the following :

1/ Download mpeg2enc in your home folder. To do it, go on the download page by clicking on the above link, keep the mouse button clicked on the "mpeg2enc" link and choose "Download the link on a disk" in Internet Explorer's drop-down, and choose your home folder.

2/ Launch terminal and enter the following

    sudo cp ~/mpeg2enc /usr/bin/mpeg2enc
    sudo chmod 755 /usr/bin/mpeg2enc
    rehash

3/ Get the latest ffmpegX version from http://homepage.mac.com/major4

    Done

major i think i got it to compile but i keep on getting the message in ffmpegx that i havent compiled yet. there was no eror message in terminal after i followed yer dircetions, it looked like this:
    usage: cp [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-f | -i] [-p] src target
    cp [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-f | -i] [-p] src1 ... srcN directory
does this seem right so far? this seems to be about the only thing terminal spit out. how can i get ffmpegx to let me make svcds? does it not understand that its compiled, or do i not even have it compiled yet? any help or feedback would be greatly appreciated! great work man, keep it up!

This implies a syntax error when you were trying to use the cp command.

Just have the mpeg2enc binary file in your home folder and enter exactly as they are the three terminal commands I gave at the beginning of this thread. Use copy and paste from the forum message to the terminal window. Enter one command at a time.

Don't use the split in 0.0.4alpha, it's still experimental, I'll complete it for next release. Split the source MOV instead. Try with a 30 minutes chunk. Also, you need some GB free in your destination folder, as the process will decompress audio to a big file before encoding it.

You will obtain at the end of the encode two .IMG files. The first is the SVCD filesystem, the second is the actual movie. Just burn both of them in Toast multitrack XA mode.

When I tried the terminal commands at the beginning of this thread on the txt file I downloaded (the binary), the terminal didn't give any indication that it had done anything to the binary. I entered the commands, and I got another command line.

Also, outside of the binary issue, ffmpegX no longer works for me on my Powerbook. Do I still need that Applescript update you suggested for version 0.0.3? I'm using OS X v.10.1.5 at the moment. As a side note, I can no longer use mm2c either!

  9. Nothing happened.

    What does this mean?

    -bash: rehash: command not found

    KAR

  10. Never mind. I think I was able to get it through the installer that came with ffmpegx.

    KAR
