  1. Capture card: Asus V7700
    Encoder: TMPEnc Plus
    Author: DVD Movie Factory 3
    Burning: Nero 6 Ultra

Because of the Asus V7700's 2 GB capture limit, I always have to join several clips to create the complete DVD. Up until now, I've used TMPEnc for encoding both the Video and Audio, and then to to join the individual clips. (Typically, about 20-minutes each in length.) TMPEnc does a perfect job joining them all, and I can't tell they've even been joined when I playback the final DVD. Both of my DVD players support MPEG audio, so it's not a problem.

The sound quality is okay, but I'd like to make these DVD's more compatible -- and sound better -- by using seperate audio (AC3) and video (MPEG-2) tracks. Since TMPEnc can easily merge the video files, it doesn't merge the resulting PCM sound files -- at least, not that I can tell.

Can someone recommend a way to seamlessly join several PCM audio files, or suggest a way to go about doing this? I've been using FFMPEG to convert from WAV to AC3 and it seems to work well. My concern with joining multiple audio files is that somewhere down the line, syncronization will be altered...since the same utility (TMPEnc) isn't being used to join video and audio files. (Hope this makes sense.)

  2. Use virtualdub.

Open the 1st avi as normal. Then use 'append' from the file menu to open the subsequent avi's. Whne you have them all open, select audio-_direct stream copy, File->Save wav.
