  5. OK, its like this! ALBA DVD55 is using MediaTek Chipset, the common 1369/1379 don't work. I had a quick look inside and it chip is marked MT1379GE. It looks like the new OSD has a bug or they have removed the region hack. I have been able to display the Version and Subversion information but cant change region. Other MediaTek Players have the same problem since the OSD was changed. Manufacturers are sending out Firmware for them! I have sent an email to ALBA to find out if there is a hack or firmware available(dont hold up much hope !)

    HOWEVER,

You can play Region1 dvds if you repeatably press 1 on your remote when dvd is loading, you will see that the Wrong Region message will remain and will not be able to use all the DVD Functions but it will play. I don't think it will play RCE using this method.!

  6. I am still looking for a hack or some firmware! This player is not a clone of the KLH-1220 as suggested on some other posts! It looks Identitical on the outside but inside is using ZORRAN not MT1379GE. The reason I have posted this information is because if firmware becomes available for KLH it will not work with the alba DVD55!
