I have been using TMPGEnc for compression to a file which I store on external 250 GB hard drives. The source is satelite (stereo), capture device Canopus ADVC-100. I have 2 questions.
1. I have been using an audio bitrate of 128. I noticed the Help suggests 192. I want to keep the file size as small as possible because I am saving to hard disk. What audio BR should I use?
2. I am using TMPGEnc's audio encoder. I lose the stereo surround. Should I be using an external audio encoder set up through Environmental Settings? Which one and where do I find it?
Thanks much.

1. I don't like to go below 160 but you need to decide what sounds good to you. The audio bitrate doesn't affect file size as much as the video.Originally Posted by neo
2. TMPGEnc's audio encoder shouldn't eliminate the stereo sound, there must be some other problem. Toolame is typically use with TMPGEnc, click on the link to D/L. To install simply put it on your system and then link to it in TMPGEnc>environmental settings>external tool>layer2 encoder."Art is making something out of nothing and selling it." - Frank Zappa -
Is not TMPGEnc's audio encoder MP2? When I went to the tool there was a comment that it was not compatable with TMPGEnc Plus.Originally Posted by ZippyP.
What advantages does Toolame offer?
The stereo is fine but I lose the rear channels. Perhaps it has to do with the way I have my system set up. -
The note says that the newest version of Toolame has a bug, get the older version 02K, available here.
Some consider Toolame to create better audio than TMPGEnc, I can't tell the difference. Maybe I need to set up my stereo better too.
Yes, the internal TMPGEnc encoder creates MP2 audio which is compatible with S/VCD and Pal DVD."Art is making something out of nothing and selling it." - Frank Zappa
