  1. My company gives us certain awards that we can choose from out of a catalog. The panasonic E50 is an available option that I can choose, but I was just wondering if it would do the job that I want it to. I would like to wire up my VCR and my PC to the dvd-recorder via S-video, I know that the VCR will work so my main question is about the PC. Currently, I am running my PC into my VCR to record my home movies and mpeg files onto VHS, would I be able to run the PC into the DVD-recorder to do the same? I dont like trying to worry about the right file type (ie. MPEG1, MPEG2, AVI, etc.) I would just like to click "play" on the PC and then "record" on the burner. Would this work at all? Thanks!

  2. It's a good recorder its the same as the E80H but no hard drive. If you do not need a hard drive I would say get it. But I recorder TV show's and I'm not home some time's to change to another blacnk DVD-R. If you do not need a hard drive then get it you will be happy with it.

  4. DVD Recorder should record from any nonprotected source that goes into S-Video.

Other thing to consider is FireWire. Some recorders can receive signal from Video Editing software (on PC) through FireWire port. Just like recording back to MiniDV camcorder.

  5. i guess that really "clarifies" what I'm wanting answered, but I still dont know if this recorder is capable of doing the job... Is video that I play on my PC's Media Player considered a "nonprotected" source? I was really hoping that someone had this recorder and has done this before... I'm hoping... lol

And as far as firewire goes, I love it... but this recorder doesn't support it...

I see... Maybe next time I will try to answer ONLY QUESTION that you ask and not give you more information that you realy willing to read. I realy appreciate you "comments" that you are making to people that are trying to help. Maybe you will be more succesfull in the future with this kind of attitude.

    So here it is:

  8. I apologize if you thought I was being rude at any point, I am just a newbie to this and have never used any dvd-burner of any kind at all, and I really have no clue when it comes to burning dvds, authoring, or ripping, so I wanted a standalone because they seem to me to be a little simpler. However, if they do not do the job, it wouldn't be worth it to me. I only really want it to record from my PC. I didn't mean to short you in any way, I do respect any answer or input, but after reading your first reply, I still didn't know what to think about its ability to record from my PC. So in your second reply, even though you were upset, you said that I COULD use it to record from my PC.

I do really appreciate your additional response, and apologize if I seemed to have an attitude at first. I've just been trying to figure this thing out for weeks to no avail.

You finally said that I should not own this recorder... may I ask why?

  9. Now back to "more details"

    1. The reason for posting first answer so generic was that it does not matter from where video signal come from if it is S-Video. It can be output from PC Card, VCR, Cable Box, Satelite, Camcorder, digital camera, e.t.c.

    2. Why not ? Because I believe that only DVD Recorder with hard drive is realy worth of money and capable replacing VCR. Also since you seems to be heading towards PC->DVD.REC direction. If you have or planing to buy MiniDV camcorder, you can capture video to PC in DV AVI, edit, and send directly result through FireWire to DVD Recorder without any loss in process (of course converting to MPEG2 in DVD Rec. will craete loss). So I would sugest one that can accept signal from PC FireWire.

  10. NON-PROTECTED: VHS tapes or commercial DVD's include copy protection signal that will not let you record it on DVD Recorders. I am not familiar with all types of protection but most common is Macrovision. Also cable companies might broadcast signal with copy protection, so it might be possible that you are not going to be able record some movie, channels, e.t.c.
