  1. i've been using the PANASONIC AY-DVM63PQ, professional mini-dv tapes w/my Sony trv-22 & basically sticking to that since it's recommended to keep using the same brand.

however, i've been wondering what really is the diff b/t professional tapes & consumer ones. i didn't see that much of a diff b/t the sony ones i started off using & the panasonic ones that i am using now.

actually the colors don't seem as vibrant since i started using the panasonic ones. could this be b/c of the tape? maybe it's just the conditions of where i was shooting at. dunno.

anyhow, i don't wanna waste my $ on professional ones if there isn't that much of a diff ya know.

any input on this would be much appreciated, thanks.

lots of the video quality comes from the video camera. I think the main bottle neck for video quality is the camera. if the professional tape is used on a consumer level camera, the quality of the video wont be much difference than with a consumer level tape. unless you use a professional level dv cam, i dont think you would be making full use of your pro level tapes. usually using the same brand of tape with the same brand cam produces better quality.

jpvideo is right -- not a lot of diff. on the tapes. Pro tapes would have a better base in some cases and sometimes better internal parts - now days the metal oxide layers are about the same ...

... though its a well known fact that Sony DV tapes dont work well in JVC DV pro decks..

  4. for those of u who have a trv-22 as well, what brands have worked best for you?

also, if i switch from a professional tape as i have been using, to a consumer one & just stick with that brand from now on, will that change cause problems? or do the problems only occur when brands are being changed on a constant basis?
