I want to know if let's say I got Norton Antivirus 2003 do I have to upgrade to 2004 in order to be protected or can I keep using 2003 and just continue downloading newest updates.
Also would I be protected from the newest viruses with 2003.
Thanks.

Sry for posting I just found out the answer on cnet.com
I don't need to update to 2004 simply cause they haven't added many features to 2004 compared to 2003. -
I removed Norton and installed AVG, much happier now and it was free.
You know you only get twelve months subsciptions with Norton, yes?

I like F-Prot myself. I've used it for quit awhile now and it's never failed me. They have a free trial download. I also use McAfee at work, and it's been pretty good too. I try not to install Symantic (Norton) products. I do use ghost, but I just ripped the ghost.exe out of the installer.

AVG gets my vote.
All the features of Norton without the cost or the troubles. -
I love AVG and have been using Version 7 for at least a couple of months now.
If at first you don't succeed; call it version 1.0 -
Is v7.0 free?
I know v6.0 is.

i dont understand why people use anti-virus software.. are you really downloading 'questionable' software constantly? such as cracks..
i install norton about once every quarter year to check my system for virii, but nothing has ever come up..
i just keep windows updated and dont download crap that may put my system in jeapoardy..
i do on occasion get spyware on my system, but i run adaware & spybot about once a week to clear it up. -

20 years ago yeah, I could see your point but not now a'days -
I had an email in from someone who has my email address via the amateur football website I run.
It started with the words to the effect of ..."the attached file...so has been sent as a binary atatchement".
I seem to remember seeing something about this kind of message on a peice about a new virus, so deleted it straight away (the atatchement was a zip file)
No offense but that's about the dumbest thing I ever heard of. Not running a Virus scanner and being connected to the internet? I'll bet you don't have some sort of a firewall either.

A 'banging your head against a brick wall' emoticon would have been better here, eh jeex?
Still, if the lad has never had a virus then =

Sometimes while I'm surfing the internet, a popup will popup(
), and will give me a virus, but norton just automatically deletes it

and its exactly like i said, questionable downloading.. programs off kazaa and those other shitty p2p programs.. i think outlook express is the most vulnerable.. seeing as how alot of it is distributed with ease through outlook.. i stick with hotmail, and i dont download attachment unless i'm sure of what they are.. not some generic bullshit. -
I got NAV 2002 and I very rarely receive a virus.
The AV is good to have and this especially so now with the MyDoom virus going around. It detected and isolated the virus a few times and then deleted them.
However on receiving the 6th infected message a little while ago and the AV scanner didn't detect the infected zip file in Outlook Express 6. I wonder why, was the zip file got anything to do with it?
Were the infected files hiding in the zip and AV didn't see it?
The preview pane in OE6 is always closed and therefore the message as unopened, I manually deleted it myself.
I’ve just done another computer scan and nothing is found at all. I hope nothing is in there?
This is show that Norton's scanner isn't foolproof and isn't perfect and won't pick up every virus known.
Norton as very popular, it won't 100% protect you.
Symantec can’t protect you on everything and on every part of the computer. The Internet Information Services (IIS) in Win2k is one example as the NAV won’t cover you.
So, don't forget to update your OS from Microsoft every now and then for vulnerabilities in the system for your protection.
It is really up to you to reduce the vulnerabilities in the system and this depends on what you are doing with the computer and what is running and whatever you got is risk to infection.
Don’t run unnecessary vulnerable applications and programs in the system.
So, you can’t always rely all on the AV application. Like Jeex just said, Hotmail is the safest place to receive your messages. -
I use Norton AntiVirus 2003. Some people use Sophos, provided free by the university, but I think Sophos is about as bad as a virus!
It slowed my system right down, and missed a couple of viruses floating around the network in freshers' week......
I wouldn't go without virus protection. To do so is pretty reckless, not just to yourself but to others if you spread it. Jeex is right, too - keep Windows updated!
