This is just a shot in the dark but are you running low on hard drive space? You said that you get the error regardless of which source movie you use but are you using the same encoding settings or different ones each time? If the same, what are they?

What are you writing ? VCD / DVD ? I would imagine, like teegee420 says, that you are running out of room.

Also if your file system is FAT32 this has a 4gb file size limit so if you encoding to DVD this maybe your problem.

Could be just about anything. Disabling all progs running in the background may be useful, especially anti-virus and other disc monitor programs. Make sure you have the latest drivers for everything, esp. motherboard, chipsets, video, drives, etc. Try encoding a very short piece and see if you get an error. Make sure all clips were encoded at the same bitrate, as well. Try an uninstall/reinstall in case a part of the program was moved or did not install properly the first time. Good luck.

  5. Try defraging your hard drive, but with a good defrager, not the standard windows version.

keep the 97 % file. reload original file in tmpgenc. use source range to encode the last 3% then use tmpgenc mpeg tools to join the two together. 97 plus 3 = 100%

Might work. I assumed from the original post that it froze at 97% of the encoding process and never wrote the file to disc. This solution could also be complicated if the program wrote "junk" to the disc at the end of the file, which could render it unreadable.

I am having similar problems!! I am using TMPGEnc Plus 2.5, and around 80-85% I get the stream write error. I can't figure out what's going on! This has happend to me 3 times, with 2 different Divx movies.

My file system is NTFS under Windows XP Home. Before I start my encoding I have about 8-9 GB free hard disk space, and when TMPGEnc crashes I have about 4 GB free. My DirectShow VFAPI priority is 2 like I have read some people suggest. I have no idea what is happening!! I do have Norton Antivirus Auto-Protect disabled (though it is still in the taskbar) and I also have Norton Personal Firewall disabled (it is still in the taskbar as well).

I assume I have enough hard drive space, and my file system is not FAT32 which apparently can cause problems too. Please help

Update: I just ran my Divx through DivFix and it tells me I have 3 errors - corrupted frames. I'm going to try and fix these problems and see what happens

Update 2: So I tried converting a Divx movie which DivFix says has no errors, and I got the same error! Stream writing error around 76%. ARGH!!

  10. Hi,

I tried absolutely everything to encode my films with tmpgenc,it just kept stopping at 97% however as a last resort I rebooted my laptop and re-installed tmpgenc and it is now converting the films 100% no problem!

    Weird!

I would say as a last resort reboot your computer, but as I say I tried everything and nothing worked.I changed environmental settings, ran the film through DivFix and even disabled Norton Firewall settings and this had no effect at all.

  11. Are you sure your AVI is type 2? If not, run it through Canopus DV File converter and write it out as Microsoft DV (AVI 2), and try it again.

I was getting this kind of spotty behavior with some AVIs I captured with Windows Movie Maker, which only writes AVI type 1. The Tmpgenc site says that only type 2 is supported. I would have thought that in that case, Tmpgenc would not even open the file, but it does, and it even worked properly on some short 5 minute clips.

Once I converted to type 2, Tmpgenc is solid as a rock.

    Good luck.

    Last resort?

I reboot my computer everytime before I encode something and everytime before I do a capture.
