Check this out.Look under dvd rip.I use Anydvd and clonedvd the most.
If i have to compress too much,i use intervideo dvd to split the movie to 2 dvdr's.Not one coaster with either method.

I tried to make a backup with DVD Shrink, and I got a Copy Protection Error. I was trying to back up Head of State, what is the problem?
-
I have learned that the experienced people on this forum don't help too much with simple newbie questions so I'll add.
You first have to decrypt the dvd to the hard drive with DVD Decrypter 3.1.9.0, then you use DVD Shrink to compress it. Then burn the DVD using Nero 5.5 or 6 or a burning program of your own. There are several key steps in between but too much to list here.
There are many how-to's on this website. Take some good time and research. It taught me all the basics!
DVD X Copy is not worth the money. The above programs are freeware and are more flexible in what they do. -
I downloaded AnyDVD and then it took off that protection error. I used DVD Shrink to burn it and it encrypted it, now its burning and its at 17%. Is the DVD going to turn out bad?

What happened? Is this because I didn't Decrypt it? -
It's compressed down to 17%? I've never compressed one that low. I can't imagine that it's going to turn out very sharp. I've compressed down to 50 some percent and it turns out great.
Here's a great link for how to articles:
https://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?howtoselect=6;30 -
I didn't compress it that low, that was just the percent it was burning at.
-
Oh, ok. I've never used AnyDVD so I'm not real sure. I'm still a newbie of sorts. I've only used DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink with excellent luck. I did make a few coasters when learning however.....
-
I just need a quick and easy way to back up a DVD onto a single blank DVD+R.
-
Quick and easy - DVD X Copy Express. Very easy interface, does everything for you - decrypts, compresses, burns it too. This is what it does:
Burn DVD Movies to DVD-R(W) and DVD +R(W) disks
Copies full multi-channel audio (dolby digital 5.1, dts)
Simple, one-click interface
Copies dvd movie to one blank disk (no need to split)
However it will not:
Copy special features (movie trailers, commentary, etc)
Copy every language available on original dvd movie
Copy episodic DVD movies (sopranos, simpsons, etc)
Specify which special features to keep or remove
Easy-peasy Japaneasy (except it costs money)
It does add a disclaimer to the beginning of the DVD about being a copy and pirating is illegal, etc. (doesn't matter if it's a backup of your own DVD, who cares??)
If you want more than that, you have to work at it and learn the freeware. -
I use any dvd with clone dvd.Decrypts and compresses if necessary at the same time.I used to burn with nero, but i had so many problems with it i switched to record now max.Load the VIDEO_TS folder and burn. Not a coaster yet.I only keep the movie and menus. If i have to compress more than 20%,i'll put it on 2 disks. There isn't much advantage to a dvd player,a widescreen tv,and 480p if the quality of the movie you end up with is no better than a vhs tape anyway. To each his own.

I completely agree about his original question. I couldn't believe it was actually posted. However I did point out a few times about researching the website. My only problem was that when I started out, I looked thru the forums and guides looking for an answer to a question that I had and couldn't find anything specific on it. THEN, I posted the question and had absolutely no response. That kind of surprised me. That's all I'm saying. Thanks for the response.
(We are all newbies at some point) -
I backed it up with DVD X Copy (I purchased it online last night), and it seems to work in the PC, but I put it in the DVD Player in my Van. It plays the DVD, but its like its fast forwarding. Like still pictures every 4 seconds. What do you think caused this? Is it an incompatibility, or is it because it is -22 Degrees Celcius outside (condensation, something like that). I also don't hear any sound.
-
I just wish there was a website somewhere someplace that would have info easy at hand so people would not be forced to ask questions like this at a forum. Maybe put the info in simple to understand links to the left of the screen... maybe one day.
-
copying dvds has became so easy and simple compared to like a year or two ago. so when someone says they don't know how or can't find the answer. there either really dumb or real lazy.

Did you check the compatability of your van's dvd player with DVD+R media? Did you try out the DVD on a regular DVD player on a tv? Keep in mind that DVD-R's are slightly more recognizable on dvd players than DVD+R's.

As an "old timer" on the board, my nickels worth of free advice is to do a search before posting. Many if not all of your questions have been answered before, this question IS a VERY basic question. Further, a large number of the guides on this site have (with pictures) the resolution to your problem.
As far as the other parts of the thread, personally I am SHOCKED that this thread did not turn into a flame thread. Before, a question like this would have brought everyone out in droves to PERSONALLY ridicule the poster. Apparently, those folks have moved on (or decided to let this one go).
Anyway, some advice would be to do some searches and look at some guides before posting. Welcome to dvdrhelp.com.

It is easier just to arrive at the forum and get some direct answers for direct questions.
