Has anyone had a chance to check out the Canopus ADVC300? I know the ADVC100 is well respected by the members of this site and I would appreciate any opinions on using these devices to capture.
Right now I am capturing using pass-through on my (Sony DCR-TRV30) camcorder. I have been happy with the results I've been getting after an unsatisfactory experience capturing VHS through my ATI 8500DV video card (video was too dark).
What kind of improvement, if any, could I expect by switching my camcorder with an ADVC100 or ADVC300? According to the specifications it seems as though the ADVC300 has some improvements (over the ADVC100) in cleaning up the video.
Another related question I have is ... What kind of wear-and-tear am I putting on my camcorder when using the pass-through feature? Is this another variable to consider as to whether or not to purchase a standalone converter?
