liteon 451s problem

apologies if this topic has been discussed - i was not able to find a thread for the set of problems im having.

i have a liteon 451s. i have two ways of burning 1. dvdxcopy 2. dvddecryptor -> dvdshrink w/ nero (all latest versions). in addition to these software i have windvd5, powerdvd5 and divx5.05 installed.

ive encountered various problems:

1. reboot in the middle of encoding - this problem seems to be solved due to heat issues (i have a p3 900Mhz overclocked to 1.4G) by opening my case [problem solved]

2. skips, freezes and GPF when playing copied movies - it seems like windvd is very buggy. switching to powerdvd fixes the problem. [problem solved]

3. dvd roms cant read disk - this problem is NOT solved. most of the time, the burn is successful (dvd-r). 10-20% of the time, it cant be read but there is no burning error. the rest of the time my burner can read it along w/ one or two other dvd roms (capable of -r). but in those cases, at least one drive CANNOT read the disk. it would keep spinning and say the disk has invalid windows format or different file system.

if the disk is bad, then nothing should read it. my two other dvdroms are 1. an old creatived pc dvd 6x (desktop) 2. new toshiba 8x (laptop)

any idea what is going on?

Have you tried the newest firmware for your DVD-burner?
I believe FS0H is the latest one for your drive. You can see your firmware in Nero by going to the Recorder-menu and then: Choose Recorder.

You can also try to play with your IDE connections, try another cable 40 pins vs 80 pins. Try master/slave/cable select.

I recently bought the new NEC 2500a and couldn't get it to burn DVDs (Nero gave communication failure errors), however it did burn ok with other DVD-burning software or when burning a CD with Nero.

The IDE-port used was on a promise ATA 133 controller, so I decided to change the 40 pins cable for a 80 pins one and my problem just disappeared.

gsb6... is that the latest for 451s?

GSB6 is the latest...Make sure your 451 is installed in Secondary Master
configuration.

switched to 2ndary master. same problem. is it a nero problem? i bought a batch of ritek g04 and will try them late this week
