    Check recorder is set to "video" mode ... otherwise you end up with "rm" which other players wont touch.

    Finalize the disc for pc ... if no go, either update pc's drive firmware or use different brand of media.

    For revision editing on pc later check if recorder supports rw media ... save's money in the long term.

    I have a Toshiba DVD player that will play no LiteOn LVW-5005 recordings regardless of media type, but it plays copies of LiteOn recordings when copied to DVD+R bitset to DVD-ROM book type. Try making copy to DVD+R bitset to DVD-ROM to see if it helps. That extra copy step was eliminated for me when I replaced a bad burner in the LiteOn recorder and set replacement burner to bitset DVD+R to DVD-ROM while connected to PC before installing in the recorder.

    DID You and are you sure it was

    What model is this liteon and what is the build date. It should be on a small white label on the unit rear ( it may be on the underside)

    By your post it does not sound as a liteon issue The DVD player could be having problems

    Did you ever put in a disc, and it did nothing? Press PLAY and see what happens. I know of a few DVD players that do the same thing on JVC-made discs. That's what works there. The players didn't seem to like the DVD-VR "start" command.

    The LiteOn LVW-5005 has an option to finalize which is on the same menu screen where you select record, erase and other functions. All my DVD players need to press PLAY as lordsmurf suggests. However, discs may no play if not finalized.

    If you have a PC burner with bitsetting capability, you can simply use Nero or other burning program to copy the LiteOn recorded DVD to DVD+R bitset to DVD-ROM as suggested in my 4/23 post. I used RW media for LiteOn recordings becuase they can be reused after DVD-ROM copy is made on PC burner.

    The 5005 series does come in different versions But all do operate the same and should not require anything other than Record and finalize [finalize for all disks except +RW}
    Th e age would indicate the unit has the original DDW drive . If so that may be the pronlem
    If you have had this unit for some 3 years?You most have finalized the disks if played on other make players
    The ilteon 5005 is a very good unit but the DDW series drives did have problems and even if working were unreliable/. They may burn and not play or play but not burn Sometimes like an RW but not a + or – disk and the reverse
    Replacement is mot a big problem with the 5005 but acquiring a proper [older] drive for the unit can be

  10. Use the 'Guider' button on the recorder's remote control to bring up a menu that will include the 'Finalise' option. You may want to try reading the manual as well as it will give you the types of media that you can use and whether they'll need finalising or not. You'll probably find more help here http://ccgi.mgillespie.plus.com/liteon/smf/ if you need it.
