Max rewrites on DVD RW's ?

Anyone know what the max rewriteson -RW's or + RW's are?

I have rewritten to my - about 6 times - still good, but I also have a Memorex =+RW that looks like it's had it at 12 rewrites. Parts of the video white out - not there when burned to another source. This has happened the last two times used.

I think it goes something like 10,000 writes for DVDRW and 100,000 for DVD-RAM.

Try a 'Full Erase' not a 'Quick Erase'. Your burner isn't burning hard enough to erase on the fly (required for quick erasure usage). Could be media or firmware. Try burning slower (1x for -RW). +RW is fixed at 2.4x .

DVD-RW discs are rated for 1000 rewrites. Using newer hardware and good media and this can be as much as 10,000 rewrites.

I have given some DVD-RW discs several hundred rewrites, and not found any problems. I have read before of short life spans with +RW media and it failing after relatively few rewrites, what make of media is it?

DVD+RW: 75 discs (the yellow jewel insert variety) from Wal-Mart were used for video editing and testing. Five of those discs were formatted and rewritten 100 times without failure. One disc of the 70 remaining discs was defective out of the jewel case.

DVD+RW doesnt need to be formatted before the first use
and no need to erase when overwriting...

LONG LIVE DVD+RW!

I can update those numbers. There are 5 Memorex DVD+RW discs that I rotated through a variety of tasks, but mostly for 'archiving' programming from my DirecTV and Dish Network receivers.

These were the rewrites I had as of December 11th, 2003...

1 Disc has stopped being erasable after 107 rewrites.
4 Discs have succesfully been rewritten 110, 114, 115, and 121 times, respectively.

Since that time I have ressurected the disc that became unusable and have been using it to catch up to the others. They are all now sitting at 172 rewrite cycles. They will probably reach about 190 rewrites before my 'chase recording' scheme is completed and I'll be 'TiVo Live' going forward.

Kingnog had the audacity to question my record-keeping techniques. A few well-placed MIRVs shut his ass up good! But, for the record, I just take cardstock, cut it into 4¾" x 4¾" squares and write down what I record each time the disc goes into the drive. Novel, huh?

How many times I can re-write my RW discs is really not a concern for me. I use them all the time to test & pre-master title sets for my projects and I have yet to run into that problem. They get scratched and scuffed to the point my player won't read them long before they "wear out". I've got a few I'm using now that if I were to guess, I'd say they've been recorded to 500+ times, easily. Mostly just 30 second test clips, but sometimes they get a full burn. I bought a 10 pack of the RWs when I got my first burner and still have 4 or 5 of them un-opened in the box.
