I have been using the Ritek GO4's for about 6 months now with my Sony DRU510-A burner. The Riteks have been burning at 4X speed but recently they will only burn at 2x. I have bought 3 different batches of the G04 from 3 different outlets and Im only getting the 2x result. Can this be the media? All burning at 2x from 3 different vendors?? Is there a chance that something may be wrong with my burner? I have the latest firmware and am using Nero 6.x. Thanks very much.

Get DVDInfoPro - that should tell you exactly what speed the discs are.

Thanks and I will post back what I found. Im almost tempted to go out and buy a 8x burner now that I see them for under 200 dollars.

It sounds like your burner has been set to pio mode instead of dma mode. That would cause your drive to burn at 2x on certified 4x media.
You can check this through device manager if your using windows. -
DVDDecrypter in ISO Write mode should also tell you some quick info about the disc....though not as comprehensive as DVDInfo Pro.

Heck, Thanks for that info as I am trying that now. Jaw, when you go to device manager up in the control panel and click on the dvd drive, it does not give you any options about setting dma mode. None there whatsoever. But I know dma is set because it's set up like that in bios. I have checked it there. I just went out and bought a 5 pack of Memorex 4x disks and they burn at 4x, not the 2x. It just does not make any sense to me why all of a sudden my Riteks coming from three different sources, wont burn. Seems weird.

I just got a batch of genuine 4x Ritek G04 DVD-Rs for my LG GSA-4040b burner, my past batches all burn at 4x, but this batch only will burn at 2x, if I try 4x I get a message in Nero 6.x in the first couple seconds and thats that.
Only difference I could see between the disc's were the inner hub serial was much lighter on the new disc, where it was dark black on the older, I'm trying to find a vendor that has 4x and I'm going to buy a slew so I don't run into this problem for a while again. -
In device manager, you have to enable it on your primary or seconday IDE contollers (Depending on where your burner is), thats where to find it.

Ok I found it. The location is a little different in XP. It is set and working at Ultra DMA Mode 2. That can't be the problem. Im going to give one of these disks to a friend at work and he if his burner will burn at 4x. When you are used to 15 minutes a disk, the 30 minutes is annoying! Thanks for the help.
