  1. Before I used:
    VirtualDub
    VirtualVCR
    iuVCR

    All drops frames

Finally I found how to capture without dropped frames . Now I am capturing at PAL Full D1 with MainConcept MPEG Encoder 1.4 using PicVideo MJPEG Codec. No dropped frames. Best picture quality. I have no frame drops now.

(Although with huffyuv so many dropped frames)

If you want to capture with 0 dropped frames , Capture with MainConcept MPEG Encoder. Enjoy…

    Good luck

Yep, you've discovered what some of us already know, huffyuv is far too intensive for some PC's (like mine) and therefore the MJPEG codec is the better choice
IMO your system is far too low a spec to be using the huffyuv...
....glad you got great results from the MJPEG

  6. MainConcept capture
    720x480 AVI from satallite
    48k 16bit stereo PCM
    MJPEG quality=20
    CPU load 13%

    MainConcept
    720x480 AVI from satellite
    48k 16 bit stereo PCM
    Huffy w/default settings
    CPU load 9%

With my machine it's 4% less CPU load to capture with Huffy. File sizes are about the same.

Same setting with ATI MMC 8.5 CD install CPU loads were 1% higher on both settings. Filesize, again, about the same. 450MB/min+-

Well I've found that on my capture computer that PICVideo MJPEG on 20/20 is more CPU intensive than HuffyUV but PICVideo MJPEG on 19/20 is less CPU intensive than HuffyUV so that is what I usually use.

My capture computer is only a P3 650Mhz 256MB RAM WinXP system with a BT based PCI capture card and I can just barely capture with PICVideo MJPEG on 19/20 without dropped frames. Setting it to 20/20 results in MANY dropped frames and a totally useless capture. HuffyUV results in a few dropped frames here and there due to occassional CPU spikes but not that many ... maybe 5-10 per 30 minutes.

This is all at Full D1 resolution (NTSC 720x480 29.970fps).

I can use HuffyUV at Half D1 no problem.
