Nu Tech has released a firmware upgrade for their 8x +R/RW burner to allow -R/RW burning. They don't advertise the -R burning speed as far as I can find. It's also advertised as a test version. Is there any particular advantage to trying this out if +R works fine on my standalone players? Has anyone out there done this upgrade?
I've only had this drive for a couple weeks and my burning has been ok for the most part except that I can't get it to burn above 2.4x. I bought a spindle of Memorex 4x +R discs at Best Buy recently. They turned out to be CMC. I wasn't thrilled at that since I had read that Memorex usually used a more reputable source. These discs should burn at 8x on this drive, but 3 attempts produced 3 coasters before I backed down to 2.4x. On the 3 coasters, the burn started out at 2x for a bit and then tried to kick into higher speed. This is where the burns failed. Could this be drive or media? The 2.4x burns turned out fine. I haven't tried other media yet. That's my next step.
Thanks,
Andy
