    Hi,

Notwithstanding my deep reading in the forum, I am now confused on some of the subjects.

Source file: AVI file (DIVx 5.1 Codec), 29.970 fps.

    Tools: VirtualDub, TMPGE Plus

Player: Standalone DVD Player, Denon DVD 2900 (EUROPE)

I have followed all instructions and settings described in the guide of LordSmurf.
The final result is good in terms of aspect, picture quality etc.

The video is a rock concert, therefore filmed in the dark with many lights effects.
When the scenes or the lights change, I see like a fog, it is difficult to describe with the right word, monoblocks, mosaic maybe.

Do you know the reason of this effect?

Second question, is there a tool that tells me if the source file is interlaced or not?

    Thank you!

  2. To your 1st question, that sounds like what is commonly referred to as MacroBlocks. This is down to using a too low bitrate fro the scene. Music concerts with lots of dark areas and flashing lights are very difficult for mpeg encoders to handle well and this is the usual result. If you encoded the video using the max bitrate for SVCD then you are pretty much stuck with it. You could try a higher bitrate and see if your DVD player will play it, some will.

If your source file is divx, chances are it is progressive. One of the more recent versions of divx supports interlaced encoding, not sure if it was 5.1 or later though.
