  1. Hi all, I have a Winfast 2000 XP Deluxe tv capture card and I was wondering, what settings should I use to fit 3 hours of footage onto a single dvd. I have the options to select bitrate (upto 10,000), video quality (up to 1,000), and resolution but thats 720x480 I guess since I want this to be written on to a dvd. The video codec is just called mpeg 2 codec and the audio is mpeg 1 audio layer II, let me know what you think the bitrate and quality should be, and if there are better compressed codec that would also play on normal dvd players.

When I used any mpg setting, the file was NOT dvd compliant when I tried to author/burn the file- it used 44.1 audio not 48. Someone was kind enough to send email telling me to start with ntsc-dvd setting as base to create custom setting for correct biterate and resolution. Do a short cap and check properties. you want mpg1 L2 48mhz 224 bit audio for dvd compliance so author/burn program does have to re-encode

    3000mb/s should get you 3-4hrs

Sorry i can't help futher. I don't edit, re-encode or any of that stuff.

From what I have read through the answer is yes. Not sure about trying to get better sound or vid if the source isn't there.
logic says you could re-encode to lesser but not higher
