  1. Do standalone divx players from LiteOn and KiSS show divx files at the same quality as if those divx files would be played through tv-out?

  2. thats a good question... i'd also like to know this if anyone has had the opportunity to experience both.

i know that watching it with tv-out is good enough, but i never had the chance to use a divx player yet... maybe its better.

  3. I too don't know about the players but surely they are far more convenient as running a cable from your pc to your tv, handy if the tv is in the same room but for most people it is not.

  4. I really enjoy my lite-on...It will play just about anything you throw at it...and I've seen some divx encodes on one CD-R that look virtually identical to their DVD counterpart.

  5. Well, to me it seems that playing divx over computer is MUCH more convinient than on standalone because:

#1 - computer can play any future codec and always has up to date divx version, so no worries with firmware upgrades
#2 - no need to change disks and you can have all your videos on your computer (nowdays, HD space is CHEAP, 1GB RW cost like $0.50)
#3 - you can rip dvds to higher quality bitrate instead be limited to 700MB
#4 - even more convinient if you have ATI AIW cards with infra-red remote control and if not, then that the only price you have to pay, along with cable (assuming you have a decent video card with TV-OUT), which still going to be cheaper and more convinient than standalone player

I would have to say that the computer output is slightly better than the divx capablity of the liteon lvd-2002... with my xbox, I can't hardly see any pixelation, but with the liteon, it's quite obvious...

  7. Thanks!

What about KiSS players, like DP-450?

  8. With this player http://www.vinc.com/product.asp?id=31&PID=21 you could display divx files at 720p 0r 1080i assuming you have a HDTV. I have the player but have yet to try out any divx files.
