  1. does anyone know if it is possible to unlock the DVD region on a player. i've seen software that does it to a PC DVD drive but that isn't helping me. I got a copy of a movie and it won't work on my home player but works in my PC drive. Its not the disk cause another movie i downloaded works fine. The DVD player gives me the message about DVD region it states in the instructions. Also i went to see both movies in the theaters twice and i fully intend to purchase both when they are released cause a screener can not take the place of a full version quality or content wise. this is just a way of holding me over for a few months till they are released. nothing wrong with that since they got my money and are getting more in the future. if anyone can help me please let me know.

  3. What player is it ?

Some players, like Sony for example, need chipping as they can not be unlocked with a remote control "hack".

  4. yeah its a sony model. the remote hack didn't work. i don't know much about chipping so i guess i'm out of luck. i was thinking of trying DVD region free software cause i'm hoping it allows you to burn the DVD region free so it'll work on any DVD player. i tried hooking my laptop to my TV and play with PowerDVD but it wouldn't show the movie on the TV screen. only on the laptop. i just had the powerDVD player thing on my TV and a black screen. hmm.

If you're ripping and burning a DVD then most rippers will remove region coding. No need to hack your player and no special "region free" software required.

You need to enable the video output in windows.

It's true that programs like DVD Shrink will remove the region coding.
But you still might have the problem of needing to convert from PAL
to NTSC or the other way around.

The easiest thing to do if you watch a lot of DVD's from other regions is
to get an inexpensive all-region DVD player like the ones from Cyberhome
    or Daewoo.
