Hi,
good evening to all.
I am new for this forum. I'm from Italy, and will thank everyone that will help me for a little/big problem with a car dvd player.

This is the story:
I have bought a car dvd player from Chinavasion (this: http://www.chinavasion.com/product_info.php?currency=EUR&pName=car-dvd-player-tv-tuner...oducts_id=2168).
This player, on the site, is called "region free", but, after mounting it on my VR, when I play an original DVD it don't play and on the screen I see these words: Region Wrong.

I write to the seller, but it is not able to give me the instruction about make region free or region 2 (region 2 is good for Europe) the dvd player.

So I cannot play any dvd because region code is wrong.
I think that it was an error of the factory that have not set the player for European dvd (region 2).
Another problem, but it is not so important, is this: menu have not the italian language in the option .

To solve this problem I need the code to set the player.

I have look for this in this site, but for this player there is not support.

I have asked to Chinavasion about setting instruction, but they are not able to do this.

They can only replace my player but this solution is much expensive for me!
The player is mounted on my RV! To unmount it (and to mount again it after replacement) I have to spend much much much more of player cost!

The only possible solution is to have the code to set by myself the player.

This player is apparently very cheap, but it became much expensive if there is not an intelligent support service to solve a simple problem like this.

Now I think that only way to solve my problem is to learn to unlock a dvd-player...

And this is the explanation for the subject:
How an hacker works to unlock a new dvd player to make it region free?

I hope that someone can help me. Can you do it?

P.S.:Sorry for my bad English.

Biagio Italy

That's probably a question better answered at a site like CD Freaks: http://www.cdfreaks.com/ But I wouldn't hold out a lot of hope for finding a unlock. They are more common with main line DVD players and that player seems somewhat limited in distribution.

Chinavaison seems to be just a wholesaler, not a manufacturer. If you could determine what company actually built the player, you might be to get more information.

And welcome to our forums.

I think that there are two possible manufacturers for this car player: Timelesslong or Causestar.

These are their sites:
http://www.causestar.com/prod_dtl.asp?id=217
http://www.timelesslong.cn/Simplified/ProductView.asp?ID=67&SortID=33

I have sent a email to both the manufacturers, but I'm still waiting for a reply (only timelesslong has wrote but its reply was: " we have to check with technician. For any news we will let you know..." .

I think that if a seller says that a player is Region free there is no problem to send the code to unlock the player. Pheraphs it is catalogued as Top Secret" o "military secret" in China...

But I have a "very hard head" and I want to find the code...

Thank you to everyone that want help me in this.
Just so you are clear...if the player is "region free", it doesn't need a code or hack. Unlock codes and hacks are used to change/unlock players that are set to a specific region. Region free implies that the player doesn't check the DVD disc region marking.

So it is either faulty and needs to be repaired OR it isn't region free and you should return it for false advertising.

Hi Krispy Kritten,

the seller (chinavasion) says on his site that this player is Region Free and he has invited me to return this faulty products.

The problem is that it is not a MP4 or a Telephone or a portable DVD Player: it is a car player.
To test it I have mounted it on my VR and now it is too much expensive to unmount it and mount it again after replacing.
And this costs much more than a new chinese dvd player!
The car player works very well with radio, Divx, DVD ripped with Any DVD or similar programs and back-camera car.
Only original european DVD don't play.

Best solution is remove wrong region code and making it region free or region 2.
To do this is simple, generally, and it is the best way to remove an error of manufacturer.
But these codes are not in internet...

This is why I want know How an hacker works to unlock a new dvd player to make it region free...

Thank you for your post and many thanks for every help in this matter.

What everyone refers to as a "hack" code isn't something that a person sat down and "hacked" or rewrote the code to get to work. A "hack code" is really a key that unlocks a feature (like a region code) in the firmware that the manufacturer set during production. These typically only exist on models from manufacturers that sell the same or similar products in different parts of the world. This allows them to use the same firmware for models in different countries. Not all manufacturers take the cheap route, Sony for example, is known to lock their firmware to prevent tinkering.

The bottom line is that you are confusing what everyone calls a "hack code" and actual "hackers". Your player, being region free, doesn't need to code to activate or change the region coding in the firmware. If there is such a code, tech support should be able to supply it. Chances are, their firmware is locked and can't be changed this way. Your only other choice would be to try and flash a new firmware, which you would also need to get from tech support. I've never seen or read that car players can be flashed from disc, but I don't see why it won't work. Either way, you will need to work with tech support.
