  1. Here is my deal I want to be able to convert some of my better movies to a real compact size (230MB or less).I travle a lot and would love to be able to watch a movie once in a while. I have tried using Dr.Divx and DVDx. Dr Divx I have had a lot of trouble with for some reason I can't get the file that small it always spits it into multiple files. Qaulity is pretty good but I don't have enough room. DVDx did work but i wasn't real happy with the sound quality. The video wasn't bad. Iam I jsut expecting to much ? I understand I am taking 5-7 gigs and compressing them into 230 or less MB. What I want to know is there a better way then these 2 softwares or is DVDx the best I can expect and I should be happy with that. Thanks for any help.

Try 320x180 for 16:9. (don't pocket PC has 320x240 res?)

You need to change to a custom disk size to get most of the automated programs to work. Alternately use VDUB and a good bitrate calculator. 230 MB is really marginal even at sub VCD resolutions for anything over 90 minutes long.

  4. I am just trying to do the same thing. I haven't found any single piece of software that will convert to DivX although there is DVD2PPC for WMV9 conversions. I'm also having problems playing DivX on my Pocket PC (it's a Toshiba e350 - 300MHz PPC 2002 device). So far have tried version 5.1 and version 4 but neither will play without serious frame drops. Now intend playing about with 3.11. Failing that, I'm just going back to MPEG1 as at least that plays!!

Here's a guide at pocketmatrix.com about DVD to Divx. Using this guide and playing on the pocketmvp player will give you good results.
