  1. I bought an Initial IDM-830 mobile DVD player and so far I am VERY impressed. We decided on a mobile because we drive 200 miles every other weekend and we needed a replacement DVD player for our home theater. This one fit the bill.
So far it has read EVERYTHING I put in it:
DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, MP3 ON CD, MP3 ON DVD-R (WITH UDF AND CDDF format) and AUDIO CD.
The picture is very good and the hook-ups for my TV are simple.

All for around $400 US. (a little more than I wanted to spend but I wanted the 8" screen)

Now I have an MP3 player I can take to work and listen to for around 54hrs straight. LOL

    Man, I love this stuff.

I am looking at the IDM-830 and IDM-1810 (same as Mintek 1810) and wondering if there's any difference between the 830 and 1810?

    Thanks!

  3. Unfortunately I don't know anything about the IDM-1810.

I would add though, that I played a region free PAL DVD on my IDM-830 with no problem.

Sorry I couldn't help more, If you have more specific questions about the IDM-830 I will try to answer as best I can.

Just tried the IDM-830 and the "setup" icons/screen looks identical to my friend's Cyberhome 707b from Wal-mart except that the Cyberhome has more settings..... 1 extra icon with settings for video quality such as brightness, contrast, sharpness, saturation, etc. This would seem like it could be a firmware issue. Do you know
    (1) if Initial and Cyberhome are made by the same company? and
    (2) if updated firmware is available for the IDM-830 to give it the "video quality" settings mentioned above?
    Thanks!

  7. A little update, I wrote a couple of different types of MPEG to a DVD-RW and this IDM-830 played them without any trouble. I also tried a DIVX and a XVID but I had no luck with those.

  8. So, has anybody been able to figure out what, if any, differences there are between the 830 and the 1810?

    Thanks,

  9. Sent Initial asking the difference between the 1810 and 830. Got no reply! The 830 costs significantly more than the 1801 (Circuit City vs. WallyMart). Was hoping they'd tell me the 830 had a higher resolution screen (they hide this like crazy on most of the cheapie players).

Bought a Mintek 1810 from Costco...appears to be identical to the Initial 1810 based on appearance and on web discussions......It plays everything I throw at it. Haven't tried DVD's of MP3's yet, but the reviews on this site suggest it works.

Best comparison review I've found (for 7" screens) is at:

Tempting to order a Cyberhome 707b from Walmart for $218 (kit) and see how it performs!
