    Is there a way to copy the DV data from the camcorder mini tape to the Harddrive without using a capture software? Something like a bit by bit copy?

    Sure, you do it every time you copy. It's the way DV is transfered. No capture involved, Only data transfer. DVIO or WinDV or others of the like are not capture software, just transfering software.
